Frequently asked questions

Alviena is a web app for creating, organizing, and sharing chord sheets. You can enter your sheets by hand, import them from chord text, or extract them automatically from a photo of sheet music. Sheets are accessible from any device, and you can print them or use them live on stage without installing anything.

From the dashboard or the "+ Sheet" button at the top right, you have three options: start from a blank sheet and enter chords by hand, paste text in chord+lyrics format, or drop in a photo of sheet music for automatic AI transcription.

Copy the text of a sheet in chord+lyrics format (chords written above the lyrics, sections named like [Verse] or [Chorus]), then in Alviena click "+ Sheet" → "Import text" and paste it in. The app automatically detects the title, artist, key, tempo, and section structure.

You upload one or more photos of your sheet music (JPG, PNG, WebP). An AI model analyzes the images, identifies chords measure by measure, the song structure (intro, verse, chorus…), repeats, and the time signature, then automatically generates a sheet. You can then correct it in the editor.

Text import and sheet music analysis are automatic interpretations — the AI does its best but can make mistakes, especially with durations, complex chords, or ambiguous passages. That's completely normal. In the editor, you can correct or override any chord however you like: change the name, extend or split the duration, add or remove cells. The sheet is yours.

Yes. In the editor, you can define your own fingerings for chords that aren't in the library, or modify an existing fingering. These custom chords are saved with the sheet and shown in the diagrams.

Alviena supports seven instruments: Guitar, Ukulele, Mandolin, Banjo, Bass, Piano, and Voice. Each instrument has its own chord library and diagrams (fretboard or keyboard depending on the instrument).

Yes. In your profile, you can choose between American notation (C D E F G A B) and French notation (Do Ré Mi Fa Sol La Si). The display switches across the whole app, while chords remain stored in American notation.

No, all sheets are private by default. You can make them public from the editor (they then appear on the Explore page), or share them via a unique link without making them public ("unlisted" mode).

A Group lets you share sheets with other musicians. The creator invites members via a link, and sheets linked to the group are accessible to all members, even if they're private. Handy for a band or a class.

A Set is a setlist: an ordered list of sheets for a gig or rehearsal. In concert mode ("Play"), sheets scroll through in full screen, chords are enlarged, and you move from one song to the next with a swipe or a click.

A Set is a personal planning tool: you put songs in order for a gig or rehearsal, and play them in full-screen mode. A Group is a shared space: it brings musicians together and gives them access to the same sheets. The two are complementary — you can build a Set from sheets shared in your Group.

In viewing mode, a transpose selector is available at the bottom of the screen. You can shift from −6 to +6 semitones in real time. Transposition is just a display setting: the original sheet is kept as is.

Yes. A print button is available in viewing mode. The layout adapts automatically for a clean printout: the navbar and controls disappear, and chord diagrams can optionally be included.
